Anesthesiologists and pain management specialists routinely deliver drugs into the epidural space. Presently, epidural needle insertion is performed using the loss of resistance (LOR) technique, which provides indication of epidural space entry, but fails to localize the needle tip relative to epidural blood vessels, nerve roots or the dura mater.
